The priests reveal the Chardham opening dates on auspicious occasions annually. Mahashivratri marks the declaration of Kedarnath’s opening dates, Badrinath’s on Basant Panchami, and Gangotri-Yamunotri's opens on Akshaya Tritya or shortly after.
Likewise, the shrines are closed with the chanting of Vedic mantras and the performance of rituals on auspicious days. Usually, the Yamunotri Dham & Kedarnath Dhams are closed on the occasion of Bhai Dooj, while the Gangotri Dham closes on the day of Govardhan Puja.
